Tim Burton interview (1999)

5:20 - headless horseman juxtaposition-

I loved the visuals of Sleepy Hallow, and never thought of his character assessment of Ichabad being so in his head, juxtapose with the ‘headless horseman.’ Love how he defines the headless horseman as representing the subconscious.

16:00 - after watching this interview what strikes me

is how he’s created with big studios, like Disney,

but something about his work does feels indie.

Burton address that, he’s never compromised his

vision, but has always worked with big studios.

Tim Burton - on being shy, isolated and where he gets his ideas from (Big Eyes)

I love Tim Burton's reoccurring theme of character's who are artists.

10 Cinematic DRONE Moves To Fly Like a PRO

Glad I found this video. I've been studying an hour a day for my Part 107, kinda burnt out. I figured

if I watch drone videos, it would make it easier to study.

Engagement Video With Nice Cinematography

I've been wanting to create an engagement video with drone footage. This one has a nice
feel to it.

More Than a Fight: Pasadena’s Water and Power Leader and Assistant City Manager enter the ring. Video Edit Style I like

I really like the editing and use of b roll around 30 seconds in. I thought it gave it a very polished, professional feel.

Free Practice Exam for Part 107

I'm going over posts about the Part 107 exam in an invaluable group / forum I belong to.

https://free-faa-exam.kingschools.com/drone-pilot?fbclid=IwY2xjawFNiM9leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHRGseNuMyE5Gi6wBJFRnVNDDPKeWvheBzrJoItbwHNu0EkyDoiKB1n89oQ_aem_IhsQC9C_aFUCkvKbRQWlcg

Advice from someone who's taken it-

Make sure you MAJOR in the ins and outs of sectional charts. My test version was about 40-50% sectional charts-related questions, so I had to review a bunch of sectional charts to figure out the answer to the questions. In the practice test you don’t get as many of those questions as in the real test, at least in my experience. So get to know how sectional charts work. My version of the test also came with 3-5 METAR questions, which I didn’t study enough because I thought I would only need to answer 1-2 of those questions, given the patterns of the practice tests. In addition of that, my version of the test was also full of CTAF related questions.

I really like the angles and how insightful 60 minutes is. Sometime it's just a segment on Taylor Swift, and it's actually intriguing & intelligently done.

Just Practicing More & More & More

I filmed on Tuesday and wrote in a forum that my Fstop kept
swinging way up to F20 without me touching it. Then a guy commented
"it's in manual mode, you want it in video on the top dial."
Right you are. Then some other guy laughed reacted. 😐
I clicked on his profile and it was someone who owned a

How To SHARPEN VIDEO In Premiere Pro

Well, there's always cleaning it up in post production.

Mastering Auto Focus Tutorial

I always try to find tutorials from Sony Ambassadors. I've done a lot of research on Youtube tutorials, some have been a waste of my time. 🫠
I would like impeccable focus.
@1:15 Wide Auto Focus -
-Best when ONE person is in the shot.
-Only use this mode when filming ONE individual
@2:50 - helpful tip - soft hold the shutter button
-square turns green to focus on subject
        Sony ASIII
@3:10 -
By Far the mode he uses the most is Spot Focus - Large
shows you a more creative way to have subject in focus & surroundings out of focus

My Favorite 80's Music Videos

There's something endearing about 80's music video's because they didn't have the software we do today. That's why 80's music videos hold a special place in my heart.

By far my favorite is Pet Shop Boys' What Have I Done To Deserve This

The Titans That Built America- Documentary Assesment

It's a very interesting documentary, partly because you look around America and hear Dupont, Ford, J.P. Morgan Chase, Chrysler regularly, This documentary tells us the story behind all these names and it's intriguing, partly because it was a time where the regulations were a lot more relaxed.
This documentary illustrates the common things around us, like planes and shines light on how what we have today wasn't always the norm. I definitely think of Chrysler  when going 70 mph on the freeway. I never thought there were interesting stories behind such an everyday occurrence.
The story of the age of 'Easy Money,' aka car loans, and how they came about, to dethrone Henry Ford and his extremely affordable Model Ts was fascinating. It's amazing how they take an everyday occurrence and give us a narrative which is dynamic and out of the ordinary.
It's important to note the need for a great professional sounding narrator! I remember watching a documentary on the history of film (I forgot the name of the doc) and the narrator's voice was so distracting because he just didn't sound like a professional voice actor. Then i went to the comment section, there was around 100 comments and 75% were complaints about the narrator!

Far And Away Movie Assessment

Joseph's last conversation with his father was about land and when his father was on his death bed, he said "Without land a man is nothing. Land is a man's very own soul. A miricle is what you're looking for. And By God if you manage it, your old dad will be smiling down on you from heaven above."
This serves as motivation for Joseph in addition to his ambition to one day own land. I can't believe how cut throat they are, burning his home down, during the funeral procession! But after I think about it, it seems familiar from reading history. People are brutal.
I love Shannon's spunk. I love that era. It's so adorable when she switched from the drab piano to the 'modern band music.'
It's completely hilarious when Shannon takes the latter up to Joseph's room and enters in a full blown 'modern' gown.
It's nice and makes sense that they both would like to be land ownerd and she dreams of living a modern life in America.
The story is really well written, Shannon continually proves she's a bold person with her actions.
Joseph and Shannon really do seem to have the same spirit. It conveys so much in a profound way, when Shannon asks Joseph "Am I beautiful?," and he replies "I've never seen anything like you." Her cold reply of "Good," then his reaction of starting his boxing career as oppose to working in the factory really marinades the story with creating a strong  desire for the audience to want them to end up together.

It isn't too ridiculous or far fetched that they both end up in Oklahoma. I've heard of outlandish coincidences.
The race scene is so glorious and what blockbuster movies are made for. Watching it is extremely exhilarating, makes me really love this movie. Having an old school photographer there & Native Americans standing by watching really enriched the story, along with the solders. i just loved it. When they put the steak in the ground together after the previous drama it created a beautiful and heartfelt ending

My sister traced our Mexican Ancestry back to 1500 Portugal. They're just names on a baptismal records, but all those names have intense stories of love, loss, struggle and hopefully success. When I watch Far And Away its like the puzzle pieces have in some way been filled in in some odd way with  mirroring circumstance.

Warp Stabilizer Tutorial, Sometimes It Be Like That.

In Effects

    >warp stabilizer

@2:20 - under Advanced settings - check fast analysis

-He recommends only apply to part of the clip which needs warp stablizer

-Stablization >result     >smooth motion

@3:44

>Stablization    >smoothness   >50% (can adjust)

This smoothness setting is going to make the biggest difference in quality of the stabilization that you are getting from warp stabilizer.

Please do not leave it at 50%

---If it looks  jello/ wobbly, this smoothness setting why

Simple rules for how he changes his smoothness settings-

-First off, 50% is way too high - it introduces 'jello'

-The maximum I would set my warp stabilizer to is 20%

@5:17

Go to Warp Stabilizer in Effect Controls >right click

        >save as preset, then the next time go to >Effect Panel    >Presets

                    >click and drag it over to my clip

-20% usually looks great on gimbal shots

-If it looks weird w a bit of jello in shots or areas, drop 20% lower

        >He recommends taking it down to  5%

He recommend saving that preset as well

If it still doesn't look natural, he recommends going to 1%

-The most common amount of warp stabilizer is 1%

He has a 3 presets saved - 20%, 5% & 1% , he just drags them into the clips

90% of the time, he's just grabbing one of these 3 presets

Under Warp Stabilizer -
Keep at 1% before adjusting the other settings
-Click the advanced drop down menu
    >Crop less <> Smooth more    bring this to 1%
if your footage is too ruff, drag all the way to 75%-90%
                >you footage will be more cropped but stable
@8:40 Keep smoothness at 1%
- Method     >Subspace Warp

Ronin SC Tricks

It's very difficult to balance this. I read on a filmmaker forum a girl said "I couldn't balance mine, so I just sold it." I did balance it, the key is patience and minuscule movement.

Hues Celebrity Gifting Event & the Benefits of Experience

Several years ago I had the opportunity to film a gifting event for the Hues Company. The Harris sisters were inspiring to film for, just the way they made things happen and created solidarity with minority owned businesses. The event was quite lively, and I was thankful I had enough experience in filming to realize that the background chatter could not be cleaned up, no matter how skilled you are at Protools.

Sometimes videography situations arise where your only choice is to say "Cut!" And inform your client - "You have two choices, keep filming, but I can tell you now all the background noise is going to make it seem amateur.  Or you can make an announcement for people to please whisper for the next 10 minutes."

October Sky (1999)

I have a habit of watching movies 5 times in one year, October Sky is definitely one of them. In film school, while taking advanced screenwriting class many times my professor would talk about the importance of motivation with characters. October Sky is a prime example of motivation.

Most humans do not want to spend their adult lives in a mine, slowly inching towards black lung disease, also hearing stories of coworkers dying from accidents that are bound to happen in a mine, like it’s a given someone will die. Most of my favorite films are low budget indie or European art films, but I think this one is in my top 10. A good story where you really want to see the underdog win. Not every movie fits this criteria, but this one does -A Long Line is a Captivating Character with a Mighty or Moving Motivation going after a Grand Goal while facing Outstanding Obstacles.

One of the interesting things I learned about storytelling and the relationship of cinematography is how the story is shaped through camera work and how long the camera stays on a certain character. October Sky showed an evolved finess when it came to cinematography and the character Valintine Carmina.

It's really important to define the dynamics of Coalwood, which we don't know much about, to have the protagonist's older brother have a chance to get to go to college. It’s another way the movie illustrates to the audience how limited the options are for highschool boys. Only ones with football scholarships are able to attend college.

The scene where Homer dares to sit with Quintin in the cafeteria is equally funny and stupid, as in I can't believe how shallow and stupid I was in Highschool. It's very relatable though.

The challenges Homer faces while trying to perfect his rocket, like finding a welder makes him more likable, just that he won't give up and refuses to accept his fate as a miserable coal miner. His acceptance of the social outcast Quintin is also so important to make him more likable. Homer's attachment to Werner Van Braun is adorable.  It's almost as if every time a new challenge arises for Homer, it makes him more likable and I want him to win more.

Many times arguments have so much information about the story in October Sky, like before they go to Snakeroot and they argue about how horrible coal mining is, how it's turned Roy Lee's step dad into a massive alcoholic who is violent. And how O’del's dad died in a mining accident. And when the Principal Turner was arguing with Miss Riley about how a “lucky one will get out on a football scholarship, the rest go work in the mine." Miss Riley replies,"How about I believe in the unlucky ones, or I'll go out of my mind."

Much of the entertainment comes from everything they have to do to get the rocket to fly, and so many components go into that. The montage of trial and error with unsuccessful rockets makes me want them to succeed more, it also shows how hard they worked to get it done, but with skillful editing it wasn't too redundant or amateur, which I have seen.

Roy Lee has a lot sass, and not that I ever think domestic violence is a good or acceptable thing, but it fits his character that he endures violence from his step dad.

When the rocket boys are falsely accused and have to abandon their rocket building completely, it's a low point, and I feel for them, but Homer then has the perfect motivation to continue. Miss Riley basically tells Homer her life would not be in vain if she could have seen the Rocket Boys go to college and not end up miserable in the mine. What's is also a very potent motivation is Miss Riley dying young from Hodgkin's disease.

Strike talk as a b story, helps build the tension of the story and give a slight bit more suspense, making the audience wonder how Homer will overcome this challenge.

It was very heartfelt that Homes looked at Ike Bikosky’s worker coin before he won, also

Illustrating symbolically his motivation - not to die in an accident in the mine.

Ideally I would like to read every book when I like the movie version, I listened to the audio book, of Rocket Boys, it was pretty interesting. it was a long time ago though.
