Joseph's
last conversation with his father was about land and when his father
was on his death bed, he said "Without land a man is nothing. Land is a
man's very own soul. A miricle is what you're looking for. And By God if
you manage it, your old dad will be smiling down on you from heaven
above."
This serves as motivation for Joseph in addition to his ambition to one day own land. I can't believe how cut throat they are, burning his home down, during the funeral procession! But after I think about it, it seems familiar from reading history. People are brutal.
I love Shannon's spunk. I love that era. It's so adorable when she switched from the drab piano to the 'modern band music.'
It's completely hilarious when Shannon takes the latter up to Joseph's room and enters in a full blown 'modern' gown.
It's nice and makes sense that they both would like to be land ownerd and she dreams of living a modern life in America.
The story is really well written, Shannon continually proves she's a bold person with her actions.
Joseph and Shannon really do seem to have the same spirit. It conveys so much in a profound way, when Shannon asks Joseph "Am I beautiful?," and he replies "I've never seen anything like you." Her cold reply of "Good," then his reaction of starting his boxing career as oppose to working in the factory really marinades the story with creating a strong desire for the audience to want them to end up together.

| Joseph's deep affection for Shannon is conveyed very profoundly through his actions. Like when he looses the important boxing match because Shannon decides to be a cancan dancer. The actions of Joseph create an intense need for the story to have some sense of closure where they end up together. It's very intelligently written. |
It isn't too ridiculous or far fetched that they both end up in Oklahoma. I've heard of outlandish coincidences.
The
race scene is so glorious and what blockbuster movies are made for.
Watching it is extremely exhilarating, makes me really love this movie.
Having an old school photographer there & Native Americans standing
by watching really enriched the story, along with the solders. i just
loved it. When they put the steak in the ground together after the
previous drama it created a beautiful and heartfelt ending
My
sister traced our Mexican Ancestry back to 1500 Portugal.They're just
names on a baptismal records, but all those names have intense stories
of love, loss, struggle and hopefully success. When I watch Far And Away
its like the puzzle pieces have in some way been filled in in some odd
way with mirroring circumstance.
